MAKE SACRIFICES TO BE SUCCESSFUL

Being successful demands sacrifice

"A lot of late nights in the gym, a lot of early mornings, especially when your friends are going out, you're going to the gym, those are the sacrifices that you have to make if you want to be an NBA basketball player." - Jason Kid

1. Be intentional

In our world today the most successful business men and entrepreneurs are exceptional planners. To reach success you must have a clear plan with goals along the way. Your motivation has to surpass the desire to get caught up in daily chores and meaningless activities. Put intentional time into the gym, into your game, into your goals, into your development, and most importantly into what you care about. Understand that this is a process and it takes time. It is so easy to get side tracked and so having a well defined plan is key. Sacrifice a “normal life” and always look forward.

2. Make the hard choices

Success demands you to make difficult choices about how you spend your time and energy as a basketball player. There will be days where you don’t wont to put up hundreds of shots but that is the only way you will get better. The days you are least motivated are the days that you have to work the hardest. Other things in life will pop up and try to grab your attention but you must tune them out. Stick to your plan, work hard, and never take the easy route.

3. Remember why you started

Success is an everyday decision, not a “once in a while” goal. Remind yourself constantly of your goal and how far you have already come. If you do not consistently remember why you started and use that to motivate you, you WILL fall off. Use discipline and self motivation to push yourself towards the dream you originally started with. Keep it in mind and utilize it to move you forward.

4. Give up something you love for something you love even more

There will be things in life you love that you will have to sacrifice to be successful. Do you really love pushing yourself, being successful, and always improving? If yes, then you have to prioritize it over all else. If no, you are in the wrong place. Mediocrity and success do not go hand in hand. Look at any billionaire - they have taken this value to heart. When they were starting their companies they prioritized success over having that consistent pay check, summer vacation, and even sleep a lot of the time. Get to that point where your hunger for success is what motivates you.
