Small-Town Basketball Camps: Where You Live Should Not Decide What You Get
Kids in small towns get the same two days as anybody else, in their own gym. And the town gets something out of it too.

- The clinic that runs in a town of 400 is the same clinic that runs anywhere else.
- Two full days, three coaches, a custom curriculum and a booklet for every child.
- The host town markets it and keeps the registration money.
- A full gym for two days is an event a town talks about long afterwards.
If you live an hour or more from a city, you already know the deal your kids get offered: drive to everything, or do without. Skills camps, elite coaching, anything with the word "development" in it — all of it is somewhere else, on a weekend, with a hotel attached.
Bringing the camp to the town is the other way round, and it costs a community far less than sending twenty families to a city.
The same clinic, in your gym
A HoopLife clinic in a town of four hundred is the same clinic we run anywhere: two full days, three coaches (one Senior Elite Skills Coach and two Elite Skills Coaches), a custom curriculum built around the group you actually have, and a printed training booklet for every child to keep.
Skill work — shooting, ball handling, finishing, defending — then games where the kids use it, fitness circuits, and our Confidence, Leadership & Basketball IQ sessions timetabled into both days.
Nobody is turned away for the gym they have
A short floor, hoops that do not lower, a community hall instead of a school gym — we have worked in all of it. Tell us what you have and we will build around it. What we need is working hoops and one local contact.
Numbers are not a barrier either way: there is no minimum group we will not travel for and no hard cap. In a lot of small communities the clinic is most of the school, which is exactly how it should be.
What the town gets
This is the part that gets missed. A clinic is a two-day event, and events do things for a town:
- The gym is full for two days, and the town's facilities get used for what they were built for.
- Local businesses see the traffic — families in town for two days eat, fuel up and shop.
- The host keeps the registration revenue. You market it, you collect it directly, we deliver the clinic.
- Your community becomes a place things happen, which matters more in a small town than any single weekend of basketball.
What the kids get
Real coaching, most of them for the first time. Grouped by age and ability so a beginner is not stuck behind a kid who has played for years, and nobody sits out.
And the part communities tell us about months later is not the basketball. It is the confidence, and how the kids treat each other afterwards. More on that here: what a clinic actually changes in a community.
Distance is a line on a quote, not an answer
We have run clinics in 122 communities across 10 provinces and territories. A trip is built one of three ways — a day drive, a drive with an overnight, or a fly-in with freighted gear — and which one it is changes the quote, not whether we will come.
If you can host the coaching team, that comes off the quote too.
Getting one booked
Tell us your town, a rough head count, the age spread and the dates you are thinking about, and we will send a written, itemised estimate. Request clinic dates for your town, or read the coordinator's step-by-step first.
Frequently asked questions
Is our town too small for a basketball camp?
No. There is no minimum group size, and in many small communities the clinic ends up being most of the school.
What if our gym is not full size?
Tell us what you have. We have run clinics in short gyms, halls and spaces without adjustable hoops, and we build the clinic around the room.
Does the town make money on a clinic?
The host markets the clinic and collects registrations directly, so the registration revenue stays in the community.
How far will you travel for a small town?
Anywhere in Canada. Distance changes the quote, not the answer, and fly-in communities are part of what we already do.
Not sure where your kid fits?
Leave your name and email and a HoopLife coach will help you work it out. Or start with the $10 Get Started package: a planning meeting with a Director plus their first session.
