Inside a clinic

What the day is

A clinic is short on purpose. What sticks is seeing, up close, what the level above them actually looks like.

Time with the athlete, on the floor

Not a meet-and-greet and not a speech. They coach, they demonstrate, and they compete with the group.

Skill work at the level above

Shooting mechanics, handling under pressure, finishing and footwork, taught the way people who do this for a living actually play it.

Our coaches right there with them

The same HoopLife coaches who run the weekly sessions and the league, so what a player hears on clinic day matches everything else they hear here.

Live competition to finish

Every clinic ends in real play, because that is where the day either shows up or it does not.

From past clinics

The pros, on our floor

Every one of these is from a real HoopLife session with the pros — Jordan Lawley, Marek Klassen and Phillip Morrison, in the gym with our kids. This is what your kid is in the gym with.

Coached from a written playbook, not off the cuff

The visiting pro brings their own game and their own voice; that is the whole point of these clinics. What makes the week stick is what it lands on: HoopLife's written coaching library runs our sessions and leagues all year, so the habits a pro lights up in your kid get reinforced week after week after the clinic ends.

Off-ball movement

Your kid has the ball for a fraction of the game. We coach the rest of it: cutting, spacing, and getting open, so they matter on every possession.

Defence & communication

Positioning, help defence, closeouts, and talking on the floor. The loudest team usually wins, and we teach kids exactly what to say.

Creating advantages

Screens, handoffs and reads: how to beat a defender with your brain, not just your speed. This is the part most programs never teach.

Shooting form & shot selection

Clean mechanics and footwork, plus the judgment to know a good shot from a bad one. Both halves matter, so we coach both.

HoopLife practice plan diagrams for grades 1-2
Grades 1/2 · Spacing & cutting
HoopLife practice plan for grades 3-4: Fist top pick and roll
Grades 3/4 · Running a set play
HoopLife practice plan for grades 5-6: Horns offence
Grades 5/6 · Horns offence
HoopLife practice plan for grades 7-8: full court press
Grades 7/8 · Zone & beating the press

And the playbook is only half the promise. HoopLife exists to build confidence and success through basketball. Character, confidence and leadership are coached as deliberately as the jump shot, in every hour we run. The playbook makes them a better player; the coaching makes them believe it.

For parents

Questions, answered

Is this real coaching, or supervised drills?

Real coaching. HoopLife runs on a written coaching library: practice plans organized around four training themes (off-ball movement, defence and communication, creating advantages, and shooting), with every drill diagrammed and every coach trained on the same playbook and the same basketball vocabulary. Nothing about the hour is improvised. And the skills are only half of it: character, confidence and leadership are coached just as deliberately, because building confidence and success through basketball is why HoopLife exists.

What is a Pro-Level Clinic, exactly?

We fly a pro-level trainer or a professional player into Regina and they run a clinic for our kids, on our floor, with our coaches. It is not a video call and it is not a guest appearance at the end of a camp. They are on the court coaching for the day.

Who has HoopLife brought in?

NBA skills trainer Jordan Lawley, who trains Klay Thompson, Zach LaVine and Paolo Banchero, and Canadian pro and 3x3 national team player Marek Klassen, both in November 2025. College guard Phillip Morrison has also run clinics with us. Every new clinic names its athlete when it is announced.

How often do these run?

There is no fixed schedule and we will not invent one. A clinic goes up when we have an athlete confirmed and flown in. Get on the list and you will hear the moment the next one is locked.

What ages is it for?

Ages 7 through university. Each clinic states its own age groups when it goes up, because that depends on the athlete and the format.

How much is it, and how long does it run?

It varies by clinic, because flying someone in from out of province costs what it costs. The date, the times and the price are on each clinic when it is announced. Spots are limited and they go quickly.

Does my kid need to be advanced?

No. Clinics run in groups and the pros coach to the level in front of them. A player who trains with us every week and a player who has never been to a clinic both get a day that fits.

Where is it?

The HoopLife Centre, 661 Solomon Cres, Regina. We are on the east side of the city just off Fleet Street, near the SGI salvage yard, so if you are driving in on the highway you pass us on the way. Every clinic runs on our own regulation court, and parking is on site.

What should they bring?

A labelled basketball, a labelled water bottle, indoor non-marking court shoes and athletic clothing.

Can I come watch?

Yes. Every clinic ends in live play, so the back end of the day is the part worth being in the building for. Watch courtside or from the lounge, whichever suits you.

What if the cost is a stretch for us right now?

There is funding support through BOOST Kids, and we will do what we can to help. Just ask.

The coaches are outstanding. They are knowledgeable, patient, and truly care about each child's development. They take the time to break down skills, encourage effort, and build confidence in every player... The training sessions are well organized and very effective... You can really see the improvement in skills, teamwork, and overall understanding of the game after just a few sessions... We are extremely happy with our experience and would highly recommend HoopLife Basketball Training to any family looking for a high-quality program where kids can learn, grow, and truly enjoy the game.

We signed up our 8-year-old son for the 3-month membership and have really enjoyed our experience. Logistically, I like that all the sessions are laid out in advance, so you can choose what works best for your schedule. It was a great experience for our son to have different coaches and play with different kids regularly. He really enjoyed the coaches! They were friendly, knowledgeable and really helped him to improve his skills. The facility itself is fantastic, and we're glad we gave this a shot!

…Our son, Keith, not just loves the sport, but he also loves the coaches. We feel very welcome and “at home”, there. They're very friendly to everyone. Also, the skills that they're teaching our son are very helpful for his development. Our son hopes to get accepted in a basketball club while training with HoopLife.
