Everything parents ask us
Written the way we would answer it at the front desk. If your question is not here, call or text us and it will be.
Starting out
The questions almost every new family asks before their kid's first hour on our floor.
My kid has never played basketball. Is HoopLife for them?
Yes, and they are not the only one. A good share of the kids on our floor on any given night started with nothing: no team, no club, no idea what a triple threat is. Our sessions run in bands by age and by level, so a beginner trains with other beginners and never gets buried at the back of a line behind a kid who has played for six years. Sessions cap at eight players, so the coach knows your kid's name by the end of the first hour. If you want to be certain before you commit to anything, book the $10 Get Started package and we will tell you honestly where they are at.
What actually happens on our first visit?
Come about 10 minutes early and check in at the front desk. Someone will point you at the change area, tell you which court they are on, and hand your kid off to their coach. You are welcome to stay and watch, from the lounge or right beside the court, whichever you prefer. The session itself is an hour: a warm-up, skill work in small groups with a coach on each, and live play at the end. Nobody sits out. Your kid will be sweating and talking your ear off in the car on the way home.
Can parents watch?
Yes, wherever you like. Plenty of parents watch courtside; plenty settle into the lounge with the couches, the screens and a coffee. Some drop off and come back at the end. All three are completely normal here and none of them is the wrong answer.
What do we need to bring?
Non-marking indoor shoes, workout clothes, a water bottle, and their own basketball. If you do not have a ball, do not make a special trip: we keep spares and your kid will be handed one.
Beginner or Advanced? How do we pick?
By experience, not by confidence. Beginner is for a kid who is new to the game or one to two years in. Advanced is for a kid already playing club or school ball who needs to be pushed. If you are on the fence, book the Beginner one, or ask us. We would far rather move a kid up in week two than watch them drown in week one.
Is there a skill level required to attend?
None. Our coaches work with complete beginners and elite provincial-level athletes in the same building, most weeks on the same night. Athletes are grouped with peers of a similar level so the instruction actually fits them.
Is there anything we have to sign?
Yes. There is a standard waiver you agree to when you register, which happens as part of signing up online. Nothing else to fill in at the door.
Sessions, packs and memberships
How the weekly training works, what it costs, and the rules in plain language before you buy rather than after.
What is the difference between a session and a camp?
A session is one hour, once a week, all year round. It is the backbone of what we do: skill work in small groups with live play at the end. A camp is a school-break block — a full week in summer, or three days over February, Easter and Christmas — where kids get far more hours in a row and go much deeper. Most families do both: sessions all year, camp when school is out. They are bought separately, and session credits cannot be spent on a camp.
How do we pay for weekly sessions?
Two ways, and both put credits on your HoopLife account. A Membership is the cheaper way per session and is built for a kid training every week. The Family Pack is $650 for 20 credits your whole family can share, good for a full year from the day you buy, and is the flexible option for families who cannot commit to a weekly rhythm. One credit books one session.
What is a membership and how does it work?
A membership is the cost-effective way for a kid who trains consistently: it works out to less per session than paying as you go. There are two lengths — a 3-Month Membership, which is the Rookie ($450) and the Pro ($650) you can buy online, and a 12-Month Membership, which we only sell in person at the centre. We no longer sell month-to-month. You pay in full up front, all of your term's sessions load onto the account that day, and there is no weekly cap: use them at whatever pace suits your family. Memberships renew automatically for another term of the same length until you cancel.
Which sessions do credits work for?
Basketball Training, Girls Only and 3x3 sessions — all three. Open gym is unlimited and free with any membership, or $10 to drop in. Camps, leagues, Young Stars and 1-on-1 training are all bought separately.
Is 1-on-1 training included in a membership?
No. Individual 1-on-1 coaching is separate from every membership and session pack. Get in touch and we will talk through what you are after.
Can my kids share one membership?
No. A membership and its sessions belong to one athlete, named when you buy, so their coach can track that specific child. It cannot be split between siblings, transferred or resold. If sharing is what you need, the Family Pack is exactly that: 20 credits any of your kids can spend.
What happens to sessions we don't use?
Unused membership sessions are forfeited at the end of your term. They do not roll into the renewal and they are not refunded — if your term ends on the 14th, anything left on the 14th is gone on the 15th, and the new term's sessions load in their place. Family Pack credits are different: those are good for a full year from purchase.
What if we book a session and can't make it?
Sessions have to be booked in advance; a spot is not held without a booking. If your kid books and does not show, that session is used, and missed sessions are not returned or credited. If you know you cannot make it, cancel the booking as early as you can and at least 24 hours ahead so another athlete can take the spot. Whether the credit goes back on your account is at our front desk team's discretion.
Can we pause a membership for a holiday or an injury?
No. Terms run start date to end date and cannot be paused, frozen or extended for injury, illness, travel, another sport or a schedule change. That is the trade-off for loading every session up front with no weekly limit.
How do I cancel a membership?
Submit a Cancellation Request Form at least 30 days before your renewal date, either in person at the HoopLife Centre or by email to regina@hooplifebasketball.com. We cannot take cancellations by phone. It is not cancelled until management has processed it and you have our confirmation, so please do not assume the request landed. If it arrives with less than 30 days to go, the membership renews for one more full term and your cancellation applies to the term after that. Either way you keep your sessions to the last day of the term you have already paid for.
Are memberships refundable?
No. Memberships are non-refundable, and that includes every renewal. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not refund a term already paid for. There are no refunds or credits for unused sessions, missed sessions, injury, schedule changes or moving away. If cost is genuinely the barrier, talk to us about BOOST Kids before you buy rather than after.
What happens if a renewal payment fails?
The new term's sessions are not released until it is paid, and a late fee of $20 per week applies. After four weeks unpaid the membership is cancelled, and the $80 in accrued late fees is owed to reactivate it. You can update your card on your account at any time, which is the easy way to avoid all of that.
How do I change my payment method?
On your account information page, any time. If you cannot get in, call or text us at 306-993-4570 and we will sort it.
Are camps included with a membership?
No. A membership covers the weekly training sessions on our regular schedule, which runs year-round including all summer. Camps are booked and paid for separately, and session credits cannot be used towards one.
Camps and leagues
The school-break camps and the three league seasons a year.
How do I sign up for a camp or a league?
Everything on sale is on its own page with a Register button that takes you straight to checkout — start at Camps or the HoopLife League. You will get an email confirmation with your receipt and the schedule. If what you want is not open yet, every page has a spot to leave your name so we can tell you the moment it is.
What is taught at camp, and is there a required level?
No required level. Camps are built on fundamentals and technique with character development running through them, and we run camps for complete beginners and elite players alike. Kids are grouped so the instruction fits.
Are games actually played, or is it all drills?
Games. Every session and every camp day ends with live play, because a skill a kid cannot use against a defender is not a skill yet. Drills are the studying; the scrimmage is the test.
What if we miss a league night or a camp day?
There are no make-ups. A league season and a camp are sold as a whole, so a missed night or day does not create a credit or a refund. Tell your coach if you know in advance so the team is not caught short.
Are camps and leagues refundable?
No. Like memberships, camp and league registrations are non-refundable. Please be sure of the dates before you book, and if something serious comes up, talk to us.
What does everything cost?
The HoopLife League is $450 per player for a 10-week season. Summer camp is $350 for the week. February, Easter and Christmas camps are $185 for three days. Young Stars is $150 a term for ages 3-4 and $250 for ages 5-6. Memberships start at $450 a quarter. Open gym is free with a membership or $10 to drop in.
About HoopLife
Who we are, where we are, and how to reach a human being.
Why should my athlete train at HoopLife?
HoopLife is the largest basketball training academy in Saskatchewan, in our own purpose-built facility in Regina, and we are a one-stop shop whether your kid plays recreational, club, provincial or national basketball. But the honest reason parents stay is not the building. It is that our coaches are as interested in who your kid is becoming as in their handle. Every kid should leave more confident than they walked in. That is the whole business.
Will HoopLife travel to our city, town or First Nation?
Yes. Alongside everything we run in Regina, we send experienced senior trainers and full teams out to communities across Canada — First Nations, schools, leagues and teams. A standard clinic is two full days with one senior elite skills coach and two elite skills coaches, a custom curriculum and training booklets for every athlete. Start here and tell us about your community.
When are you open?
Seven days a week, year round. Rather than publish hours that go stale, the live session schedule shows exactly what is running and when, straight off our own calendar.
How do I reach an actual person?
Call or text 306-993-4570 — that is the fastest way by a distance. You can also email info@hooplifebasketball.com, or fill in the form on this page and someone will reach out to you. We are at 661 Solomon Cres, Regina.
Come and see it for yourself
The $10 Get Started package is one training session plus a sit-down with a HoopLife Director who will tell you honestly where your kid is at and what to work on next. It is the easiest way to see whether this is right for your family.
