What changes when the gym is hers
Girls leave sport in their early teens faster than boys do, and it is rarely about talent. It is about whether the room feels like theirs. This one is, and the coaching in it is not watered down.
Real coaching, not a lighter version of it
The skill work
Shooting, handling and finishing, worked properly and corrected in the moment. Eight players a session, so her coach sees every rep she takes.
The game sense
Reading the floor, making decisions at speed, and holding up when the game gets physical. The part most girls never get taught.
The live play
Every session finishes with real games, with the girls she is building friendships with. That friendship is half the reason she keeps coming back.

Coached from a written playbook, not off the cuff
Her sessions run on the same written coaching library as everything at HoopLife: practice plans built around four training themes, every drill diagrammed, and every coach trained on the same playbook and the same basketball vocabulary. A girls-only room, with nothing watered down about the coaching in it.
Off-ball movement
Your kid has the ball for a fraction of the game. We coach the rest of it: cutting, spacing, and getting open, so they matter on every possession.
Defence & communication
Positioning, help defence, closeouts, and talking on the floor. The loudest team usually wins, and we teach kids exactly what to say.
Creating advantages
Screens, handoffs and reads: how to beat a defender with your brain, not just your speed. This is the part most programs never teach.
Shooting form & shot selection
Clean mechanics and footwork, plus the judgment to know a good shot from a bad one. Both halves matter, so we coach both.
Character, confidence and leadership are why families stay. This is the other promise: the basketball itself is expert-level, and it is written down.
Two age groups, every week
Sessions group by age so she trains with girls at her stage. All levels are welcome in every group, and no experience is needed to start.

What a girls only session looks like

There is a girls division waiting for her
When she wants a team, a jersey and real officiated games, the HoopLife League runs girls divisions from grade 1 through grade 8, three 10-week seasons a year. When school is out there are girls camps through the summer and every break. The weekly sessions are what make each of those easier.
Through each league season, her court time moves into her own division: girls play their league night with their team and their coach, and the weekly Girls Only sessions run again between seasons. She is in the gym either way, all year.
Questions, answered
Who are the sessions for?
Girls ages 7 to 13, at every level. The ages 7-10 group takes brand-new players; the 11-13 group runs everyone from rec players to girls in a competitive club or school season.
Who coaches them?
Women who have played the game at a high level, including coaches who know the University of Regina Cougars experience firsthand. She is being coached by someone who has actually done what she is being asked to do.
What happens in the hour?
Real skill work on shooting, handling and finishing, plus reading the game, and then straight into live play. It is the same standard of coaching we run everywhere else, in a room built just for her.
How do we pay for it?
Each session costs one session credit. Credits come from a Session Pack or a Membership, and the same credits work on every weekly session we run.
When do girls only sessions run?
Every week between HoopLife League seasons, at the HoopLife Facility, 661 Solomon Cres. While a league season is on, the girls are playing their own divisions instead, and the weekly sessions start again after it. The weekly schedule shows every girls only time by age group.
She has never played before. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Sessions cap at eight players, so nobody is lost at the back of a line, and the groups are set by age and level. If you want to meet us first, the $10 Get Started package includes a planning meeting and her first session.
Is this real coaching, or supervised drills?
Real coaching. HoopLife runs on a written coaching library: practice plans organized around four training themes (off-ball movement, defence and communication, creating advantages, and shooting), with every drill diagrammed and every coach trained on the same playbook and the same basketball vocabulary. Nothing about the hour is improvised.
What should they bring?
A labelled basketball, a water bottle, indoor non-marking court shoes and athletic clothing. That is it.
What if the cost is a stretch for us right now?
We never want the cost to be the reason a child misses out on basketball. There is funding support available through BOOST Kids, and we will do what we can to help. Just ask.
Do Girls Only sessions run all year?
They run every week between league seasons. While a HoopLife League season is on, the girls are playing their own girls divisions — grades 1 to 8, same gym, same coaches, a team and a real game night — so her court time carries straight through the season and the weekly sessions pick up again after it.
