Where Adults Can Actually Play Basketball in Regina
Searching 'adult basketball Regina' returns a lot of dead group chats. Here are the three options that actually exist, what they cost, and which one fits.

- A scheduled game: the co-ed 3x3 rec league, Sundays, $600 a team or $150 solo.
- A casual run: open gym at the HoopLife Centre, $10 to drop in, every week of the year.
- Your own private run: rent the regulation court for your crew.
- All three happen on full-size hardwood with real hoops, scoreboards and shot clocks.
Adult basketball in most cities is a rumour: someone knows a guy with school gym access, the run happens twice, then it dies. Regina has a building where it does not die. Here are the three ways in, from most committed to least.
1. The league: a real season, organised for you
The Adult Co-Ed 3x3 League is the scheduled version: Saturday evenings, ten weeks and ten games a season, four seasons a year. $600 for a team or $150 as a free agent — and free agents get placed, so you do not need a team to join. Two 20-minute halves, running time, music, referees' whistles and a scoreboard doing the arguing for you. Eight teams a season and they sell out.
2. Open gym: the drop-in run
Open gym is the low-commitment door: $10 to drop in, free with any HoopLife membership, running every week of the year. Get shots up, join the pickup game that is always forming, and leave when you want. Capped at 20 in the gym, so there is always a game and always room in it.
3. Rent the court: your run, your rules
Have a crew already — coworkers, a church group, the old team? Rent the floor and run it your way. You get the regulation hardwood, six hoops, the scoreboards and the sound system, without hunting for a school custodian with a key.
4. Outdoor courts, for about five months
Worth saying out loud because it is free and it is real. Regina has outdoor hoops in parks and school yards across the city, and from roughly May to September they are a perfectly good place to get shots up.
The other seven months are the problem, and they are the reason the indoor options above exist. The full picture of courts in this city is here.
How to pick between them
- You want a commitment and a team — the Sunday league. Ten weeks, $600 a team or $150 on your own.
- You want to play with no commitment — open gym, $10 a visit, every week of the year.
- You already have a group — rent the floor and run it yourselves.
- You want free and it is summer — the outdoor courts, genuinely.
If you are coming back after a long time off
Start at open gym rather than a league. One night tells you where your fitness actually is, with nobody depending on you, and it costs $10 to find out. Most people who go straight into a season from nothing spend the first fortnight regretting the pace.
Indoor non-marking court shoes matter more than anything else you bring. It is the single most common thing people turn up without.
Why the building matters
Every one of these happens at the HoopLife Centre, 661 Solomon Cres: a purpose-built basketball facility with a full-size court, shot clocks and proper rims. If you are going to give your week back to basketball, do it on a floor that takes the game as seriously as you are about to.
You can see the building here, and this is what joining the league as a rusty adult is actually like.
